Before the weather turns, here are some home projects to consider tackling:

  1. Inspect and Clean Gutters: Remove leaves, twigs, and debris from gutters and downspouts to prevent ice dams and water damage.

  2. Service Your Heating System: Schedule a professional HVAC service to inspect and clean your heating system, replace filters, and ensure it’s operating efficiently.

  3. Fireplace and Chimney Inspection: If you have a fireplace or wood-burning stove, have the chimney cleaned and inspected for safety.

  4. Winterize Outdoor Faucets and Sprinkler Systems: Drain and disconnect outdoor hoses, and consider insulating outdoor faucets to prevent freezing.

  5. Winterize Your Lawn and Garden: Prune trees and shrubs, mulch garden beds, and prepare your lawn for winter by fertilizing and aerating.

  6. Clean and Store Outdoor Furniture: Clean and store outdoor furniture to protect it from winter weather.

  7. Declutter and Organize the Garage: Make space for your vehicles to stay snow-free by moving bikes and other summer gear out of the way.

  8. Clean and Test Snow Removal Equipment: Make sure snow blowers, shovels, and other snow removal equipment are in good working order.

  9. Drain and Store Lawn Equipment: Drain the fuel from lawnmowers and other gas-powered equipment and store them properly for the winter.
